Module 1: Unpacking Masculinity

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description: 

In this lesson, youth will explore and identify expectations of masculinity and reflect on the impact of these expectations on women, 2SLGBTQ+ folks, as well as men. We connect gendered expectations for men and the harm they can cause to everyone. 

Learning Objectives:

  • To identify the gender expectations for male identifying individuals

  • The better understand the impact of those expectations on women, 2SLGBTQ+, and men

Module 2: Deconstructing Gender Norms

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description: 

Module 2 begins to help us understand gender equity and gender equality. Focusing on the gender norms and rules that all individuals learn from a young age we can identify the harm they can cause and how we can counter that to start to build a more equitable world for all. 

Learning Objectives:

  • The differences between Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sexual Orientation

  • Gender Norms and the damage they do

  • What Gender Equity is versus Gender Equality 

  • Intersectionality

Module 3: Dealing with Emotions

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description:

By exploring the expectations that male-identifying folks face when it comes to feelings and emotions, we can unpack the impact of gender norms on these individuals. We will work to strengthen youth’s emotional intelligence and find healthy ways to manage emotions. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore myths about masculinity and feelings

  • Understand how society’s gender norms discourage men from expressing emotions and the harm that causes

  • Knowing the importance of Emotional Intelligence

Module 4: Exploring Relationships

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description:

In this lesson, we will explore the different types of relationships individuals have throughout their life, why they are important, and how to ensure that they are healthy relationships. We also will look at how TV, movies, books, and other types of media impact our understanding of relationships. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding different types of relationships

  • Recognizing how the media influences relationships

  • The importance of relationships and feeling connected

  • Healthy vs. unhealthy behaviours in relationships

Module 5: Understanding Gender-Based Violence

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description:

In this lesson, we unpack what gender-based violence is. We will explore where we see it happening, including in schools and online spaces like video games. We will then unpack what rape culture is and how it impacts our daily lives.

Learning Objectives:

  • What Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is, who is impacted, and how it shows up

  • What sexual violence is and how we ended up living in rape culture

  • How the Shadow Pandemic highlighted the need for solutions to end GBV

Module 6: Becoming Part of the Solution

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description:

After completing the previous modules you should have a pretty good understanding of what gender-based violence is and how it is happening around you. In this lesson we will explore two ways that you can start helping to prevent GBV and show allyship. 

Learning Objectives:

  • How to effectively intervene as a bystander 

  • How to transition to consent culture

Module 7: Becoming an Ally

Time Required: 20 minutes

Description:

In this final lesson we will explore what true allyship looks like and what it means to be an ally as a male-identifying individual. We will provide you with some tangible ways to start your allyship journey right away!

Learning Objectives:

  • How to become an effective ally in order to break down gender norms and end gender-based violence

  • Promoting healthy masculinity as an ally
