Do you want to engage your secondary school community in the prevention of online sexual exploitation?
White Ribbon, a leading expert in the prevention of gender-based violence, is working in partnership with key education experts including the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation and Aura Freedom International to address the sexual exploitation of youth.
We are launching a new initiative funded by the federal government’s Ministry of Public Safety to engage secondary schools to offer free workshops to their entire student community, parents and educators with the goals of:
About the workshops
White Ribbon will work with participating schools to schedule multiple workshops for their school community to reach students from all grades as well as educators and parents through approximately 15hrs of programming. Each session will be one hour in length.
White Ribbon is open to exploring flexible delivery methods to accommodate the COVID-19 restrictions, including online delivery, live/recorded sessions, etc.
Sessions for students will focus on creating awareness about online sexual exploitation, reducing the stigma of reporting this crime, and fostering prevention skills such as allyship, healthy relationships, challenging unhealthy gender norms, and bystander intervention.
Sessions for educators and parents will focus on creating awareness about online sexual exploitation, building skills to have preventative conversations with youth on the prevention of this form of violence, and responding to situations of online sexual exploitation.
Recent media reports, CBC, WBFO-NPR, and the Toronto Star, as well as by Canada’s National Tipline for Reporting the Online Sexual Exploitation of Children, show that youth are at a significant risk of being sexually exploited and it is increasing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
White Ribbon is committed to working with school staff and external support (if requested by the school) to ensure the safety needs of all students are addressed, including disclosures of various forms of violence and exploitation.
