Barenaked Ladies’ Steven Page And Ed Robertson of Barenaked Join Line Up For White Ribbon Benefit Concert

(TORONTO, June 1, 2005) – Multi-platinum selling international recording artists Steven Page and Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies have been added to the already stellar line-up for the White Ribbon Concert, Tuesday, June 7th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre (410 Sherbourne St.).

The North By Northeast Music & Film Festival and Conference and the White Ribbon Campaign are proud to present the 8th Annual White Ribbon Concert, taking place Tuesday, June 7th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre (410 Sherbourne St, Toronto). With a new look, new line-up and the same great cocktail of good music/good fun/good cause, this year’s installment of the event looks to be one of the most exciting yet.

Still staying with the all-cover songs format, this year’s White Ribbon concert will deviate from past events in several ways. For 2005 The Tea Party’s Jeff Martin is graciously passing the torch to a new crop of musicians who will carry on his great work raising awareness of men’s violence against women through the White Ribbon Concert. Although his contributions will be missed, Martin’s legacy will remain a part of the night.

On stage there will be more changes, including not using a house band, which is sure to result in even more musical minglings than before. Starting the evening off right will be the 2004 North by Northeast Fan Choice award winner Shawn Hewitt and the National Strike, and already confirmed participants include Alexisonfire’s Dallas Green & Jully Black (together), Alex Lifeson, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexsmith, Emm Gryner, John Kastner, Jim Cuddy, Matt Mays, Andy Stochansky, and Sarah Slean, with more great names to be announced shortly. The evening will be hosted by Jessica Holmes

As if great talent and a very important cause weren’t enough reason to attend this signature event, NXNE and White Ribbon are admitting the first one hundred North By Northeast 2005 wristband holders in line absolutely free of charge.

Tickets for the 8th Annual White Ribbon Concert are $25 in advance and will go on sale May 6th, 2005 at The Phoenix Theatre box office, Rotate This, Soundscapes, all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.ca, and by phone at (416) 870-8000.

VIP tickets, which entitle the bearer to goodie bags, free food, cocktails and up close schmoozing with the stars, are a steal at $75 and are also available through Ticketmaster. The show is an all ages event, with the VIP area restricted to those over the age of 19 years. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the White Ribbon Campaign.
